The Split sub-tab on the Extra tab of the preferences dialog box on the Pages main tab in Fred4 contains additional split preferences. All the preferences are personal (per-user) setting.

Preference

Description

Head/body gap

Enter a gap value, e.g. 8pt for the Head and  Body tool.

Hor.

Ver.

Enter the default horizontal and vertical gap between objects, applied when you Make default gap.

Runaround (T/B)

Enter the default top/bottom text wrap margin, or auto to use the default when adding images or pull quotes to an article layout.

Preferred Head Sizes

Enter values as explained in Preferred headline heights.

Subhead size

Enter a non-zero value to enable subhead with Head and  Body tool.

Pull Quote Rules, Top, Bottom

Enter the weight for pull quote rules or 0 to hide it.

Lock to grid

Tick to enable.

Add rules when splitting

Tick, to add vertical rules between column frames when splitting.

Always prompt when splitting

Prompt_also for body size

Tick, to let Fred4 to display the dialog box on each splitting.

Apply runaround on all, head only,

Apply dyn runaround

Tick, to apply the runaround on all objects when splitting, concomitantly to Apply Dyn Runaround

Size Frame on Format Change

Tick, to automatically adjust the frame height to the existing content and to the new format, for all non-body frames.

Keep the total height when scaling head

If ticked, Fred4 will keep the total height of the article layout when resizing a headline vertically by dragging or automatically.

Bounce

Tick, to bounce when using Head and  Body tool.

Add/remove columns on SHIFT+arrow, Left side or Right side

This function is obsolete in version 2.0 or newer.

Treat subhead as intro when adding

Tick, to be able to select body columns, and ad a subhead in overlap and runaround.

Allow SHIFT for ext(ended) actions, Allow CTRL...

Tick, to enable the smart resizing of headlines or images with captions. Tick, to enable smart resizing of the body columns.
