This menu on the Articles main tab contains the commands related to text editing: undo/redo, clipboard, delete, select, find and replace, insert and store save/gets, spelling, hyphenation, selection of default typography and personal preferences dialog box.

FUNCTION

DESCRIPTION

Undo

Undo the last action (if the last action was related to a script that fired multiple actions, all of them are undone at once). See Undo changes in text.

Undo Single

Undo the last action (just a single - if the last action was related to a script that fired multiple actions, only one of those is undone on each click). See Undo changes in text.

Redo

Redo the last undone action. See Redo undone changes in text.

Cut

Cut the selection to clipboard. See Copy and move blocks of text.

Copy

Copy the selection to clipboard. See Copy and move blocks of text.

Copy All Text and Formatting

Select and copy to clipboard all text from the cursor position till the end, including out-of-frame in Fred, including also the styles. See Copy all text and styles.

Paste

Paste the clipboard content.

Paste Text Only

Paste the clipboard content without formatting. See Paste text as plain.

Paste with Tabs

Paste the text originated from Excel or tab delimited text maintaining tabs (use when pasting in tables). See Import tables and tabular data from other applications.

Paste as Tags

Paste text from clipboard (containing ">" and "<") as they'd be open and close GNML tags. See Pasting tags as text and text as tags.

Paste as One Paragraph

Paste text from clipboard replacing hard returns with spaces. See Paste text as one paragraph.

Delete submenu

All

Select and delete entire text (after confirmation). Ignores the current selection (if any).

Delete Selection

Delete selection (if any). Typically assigned to the Del key.

Delete left

Delete the character (or selection) left of the I-beam.

Paragraph

Delete the entire current paragraph. Doesn't leave an empty line.

   Sentence

Delete the entire current sentence.

Line

Delete the entire current line.

Word

Delete the current word.

To End of Line

Delete from the I-beam position till the end of line.

Delete Hidden Tag Left of Cursor

Delete the hidden tags left of the I-beam - does not work if the tags are displayed.

Delete All Paragraph Formatting

Delete all paragraph styles in the current paragraph,

Delete Rest from WYSIWYG

Useful in linked text, to delete the overset text exceeding the last frame.

All EOPs

Replace all hard returns with spaces. See Get rid of extra paragraphs.

Delete Article

Delete the article. See Delete and undelete an article or element.

Select submenu

All

Select all text in the element.

Paragraph

Select entire paragraph.

Sentence

Select the sentence.

Word

Select the word.

Style

Select the entire text formatted in the same way - useful to select the text formatted by a character style.

Word left

Select word left.

Word right

Select word right.

To line start

Select the text from I-beam to line start.

To line end

Select the text from I-beam to line end.

To start text

Select the text from I-beam till start.

To end text

Select the text from I-beam till end.

 Find submenu

Find in current article...

See the Finding and Replacing chapter.

Display the dialog box to find in the current article (all elements).

Find again in current article

Find the next occurrence.

Replace in current article...

Display the dialog box to find and replace in the current article (all elements).

Find in current text element...

Display the dialog box to find in the current article element.

Find again

Find the next occurrence.

Replace in current text element...

Display the dialog box to find and replace in the current article element.

Find selected on Google

Search for the selected text on Google. See Find selected on Google.

 

Clean Text and Set Quotes

Clean the current element. See Clean text and set quotes.

Replace EOPs with spaces in current text

Replace hard returns with spaces. See Get rid of extra paragraphs.

Replace soft returns with EOPs

Replace soft returns with hard in the selected block of text. Use it when the text is badly pasted. See Replace soft returns with ¶.

Save cursor position

Save cursor position. See the "Bookmark a position and then return to the bookmark" paragraph in Navigate in text.

Restore cursor position

Restore cursor position. See the "Bookmark a position and then return to the bookmark" paragraph in Navigate in text.

Go to Overset Point

Go to line in text where it goes in overset. See Column jumps and overset points in the source pane and Column jumps and overset points in the WYSIWYG pane.

Save/Gets submenu

Get 1...9

Insert in the text save/gets 1..9. See Managing save/gets (text macros or autotext).

Store 1..9

Store the selection in save/gets 1..9. See Managing save/gets (text macros or autotext).

Spelling submenu

Spell Check Element...

See the Check Spelling chapter.

Check spelling in the current article element.

Count Element Spell Errors

Display the number of spelling errors. See Count spelling errors in text.

Spell Check Article...

Check spelling in entire article (requires that no one else edits other elements).

Count Article Spell Errors

Display the number of spelling errors.

Clear Temp Dictionary

Delete from memory all the spelling corrections entered in the session (prompts you to select the language).

Edit Personal Exceptions (All Languages)

Display the words in the personal exceptions list and allow you to edit them. See Review spell-checker exceptions dictionares.

Hyphenation submenu

Show points

Show hyphenation points in the current word. See Show the hyphenation points of a word

Edit discretionary hyphens

Show the dialog to edit discretionary hyphens in the current word. See Edit discretionary hyphens in a word.

Protection submenu

Protect Tags Against Deleting

Toggle tags protection against deleting (valid only in the current session). See Protect tags and new paragraphs against deleting.

Unlock Text

Unlock the current text - if crashed and if possible. See Unlock articles remained 'in use'.

Insert/Overwrite

Toggle insert/overwrite mode. See Type text, and switch insertion mode.

Choose Default Typography...

Display the dialog box to choose the default typography (for future new articles). See Select typography and region.

Preferences

Display the Preferences dialog box. See Text editing preferences.
