You need to know quite a lot about editions, templates and pages before you can use them efficiently.
For example, you need to know that you cannot create "stand-alone" pages - all pages must be a part of an edition or an edition template.
Moreover, you need to know that:
•Editions and edition templates, including ads import, are managed on the Editions main tab, and to learn about it see Editions Main Tab in the Main Tabs chapter.
•The design of pages is managed on the Pages main tab, and to learn about it see Pages Main Tab in the Main Tabs chapter.
•The production tracking is managed and reviewed on the Tracking main tab, and to learn about it see Tracking Main Tab in the Main Tabs chapter.
•You have to be authorized to access the mentioned main tabs. See Applications/Designers permissions.
Regarding editions, you need to know what they are, and in which they differ from edition templates, how you are supposed to organize them, in a single-title or in a multi-title systems, how to make them unique, and how to handle deadlines, about page numbering models and master pages, and also quite a lot about page geometry (layout and grids). You need to know how to create editions, either from scratch, from a template, from edition/ads plan, or from existing edition, and also how to create editions with shared content (page layers). If you deal with editions on daily basis, there's also a plenty of procedures you need to become familiar with such as Searching, Displaying, and Opening Editions, Checking Out and In, Adding, Moving or Removing pages, Other Editing Procedures, Saving, Exporting and Importing Editions and Pages, Copying and Moving Pages and Layers, Unlock (recover) editions and elements and Deleting editions. |

The required knowledge regarding edition pages and layers, depends on whether you are an edition planner, or a page designer, or both. If you are an edition planner that manages editions, but never design pages, then it is sufficient that you learn about editions and templates (see previous paragraphs). If you are a page designer that never creates or manages editions (because it is someone else's duty) that you actually do not need to learn much about editions, except that they contain pages, so it will be sufficient to learn about Searching, Displaying, and Opening Editions. The most of your knowledge, though, is to be acquired on page design with Fred4, so take a look to all topics of the Working with Pages chapter and Working with Page Layout and Grid chapter. |
