GN4 editions are collections of booklets (since the version 2.4), pages, layers and master pages, that you use to manage and publish the print products. Editions have an edition date, an edition name, an edition number, workstate, issue number and some other optional attributes. All GN4 pages reside within an edition. Thus, before you can create any page, you have to create an edition.
All editions have a parent title, therefore editions inherit page sections, page zones, layer regions, element formats, default geometry, colors and permissions from a title (or from a typography). Editions may have a proper permissions too.
In turn, editions are parents to master pages and pages; pages are parents to layers.
Editions are displayed and edited on the Editions tab in Fred4, or on the Editions tab in the browser. You can manage multiple editions at the time. Every content tab contains a single edition.
On the following screenshot, the "Daily Herald Nexpo" edition is displayed on the first content tab, and the "12/12/2009" edition is displayed on the second content tab.
