An edition template is very similar to an edition, except that it has an "empty" publishing date and deadline. Furthermore, you cannot assign an edition number to a template, nor a workstate.

Use edition templates to create new editions, either manually or by importing editions/ads plan. The edition templates to create new editions without importing plans need to have all the needed pages and the master pages. The edition templates to create new editions by importing plans need to have all the master pages, but no pages.

After you create an edition from a template, it contains all of the layers and master pages that you need. You may still want to modify the new edition, and you can do it freely.

Template editions can be empty (with no pages, suitable to import ads and pages from a Beacon or another planning system), or pre-made complete editions with pre-filled pages, and a complex layer structure.

You can prepare different template editions for different 'standard' structures related to the day of the week. We recommend to prepare a variety of edition templates to choose from, if the layout of your paper changes frequently.

However, you may want to create two types of templates, depending on how you intend to create editions.

Templates to create editions from a planning system

Such editions templates should have all required master pages, but no real pages - as the pages are automatically created when you import the planning system file.

Templates to create editions manually

Such editions templates should have all required master pages, and all required pages. If the number of the edition pages varies from day to day, you may want to create one edition template for each day. An alternative is to add/remove pages on the fly.
