This chapter contains troubleshooting advices related to text formatting. You may want to read first the General concepts of text formatting in GN4 topic.
1.Find out which formatting method was used to format text: format, style, tags? This will point you where to look for a fix. 2.Pay a particular attention on overrides: the paragraph styles override formatting on the format level, raw tags override the formatting on the styles level, globalized tags may affect the text formatting far down from the insertion point. 3.Check if GN4 signals the formatting errors and find out why. |
The possible reasons can be: •Headline has embedded tags that override the format defaults. Open the article element, display tags and check. •Headline has embedded tags, but they are not recognized by any format, because mistyped or deleted by mistake from all formats. Therefore, whichever format you choose, the formatting remains the default one. This is always signaled by a formatting error. |
The possible reasons can be: •The format defaults are overridden by a style or tags. Open the article element, display tags and then remove them. •The format defaults are not set correctly. Edit a format in EdAdmin4. |
The possible reasons can be: •The current font has no bold and no italic variants. See The bold or italic on a font doesn't work at all. |
The possible reasons can be: •The typographical grid is set to a value that is smaller that the current leading of the text, and therefore, the text lines get aligned to the each second grid stop. Use the Paragraph General palette (Gen) to find out about the current leading, and then the Paragraph Vertical Justification palette (V.Just) to find out about the current typographical grid. If the values are not the same, it means that the format defaults were wrongly overridden, or the format defaults are wrong. •The variable spacing has been turned on, and the text is too short for the assigned space, therefore the spacing between lines increases. |
The possible reasons can be: 1.The page is not saved. Save it, and then see if the geometry refreshes. 2.Your WYSIWYG pane is not set up as Dispose as on page. On the Edit menu, click Preferences, and then on the WYSIWYG tab, select Dispose as on page. 3.Your default preview region is not the one used on the page where the article is linked. On the Regions toolbar (Windows > Toolbars), select the appropriate region. |
