About vertical and horizontal guides

Fred4 supports vertical and horizontal guides. The term is 'column' guides for the vertical guides, and 'module' or 'baseline guides' for the horizontal guides.

Vertical and horizontal guides can be turned on and off independently (see Display and hide guides).

About default and custom guides

Default guides are automatically generated on a master page, based on the number of columns, gutters, modules height and page margins.

Users can place additional layer guides and move or delete guides.

Master guides can be modified only by users who have permissions to modify the master page itself.

An unlimited number of guides can be active at the same time.

About guides and pasteboard

Guides can be positioned freely on a page but not on the pasteboard. If you drag a guide over the pasteboard, the guide gets deleted. This is, indeed, a method to delete single guides. See more in Move/remove guides

Master and layer guides

See About master and layer guides

Object related guides

Fred4 supports object related guides, ie. guides attached to selected objects. See Create and remove object related guides.

To display or hide guides

See Display and hide guides.

To lock and unlock guides

See Lock or unlock guides

Operations on guides

You can rearrange column and module guides, add more guides to a master or layer, move or delete guides, create and remove object related guides, change guide stacking and snapping of objects to guides and grid.

You can position guides either with the mouse or by entering numerical values - with a precision of up to one thousandth of a point.

You can configure the snapping distance (snap-to zone).

You can hide the guides, and also print them when printing dummies of pages.

You can create and remove guides relative to existing objects.

Guides can be visible or hidden on-screen, but are never visible on printed output.
