By default, page layers have no own guides, but display those of master page.
However, you can add an entire set of regular guides on a layer, selecting different column width. In that case, both layer and master guides are displayed.
The layers guides may have different color (personal preference) of master guides. You can set only one color for all the layer guides.
Create basic ruler guides (grid) on layer
1.Open a page.
2.Double-click the layer name in the Layers palette (to target the layer).
3.If the page guides are not displayed, on the View menu, click Guides. On the Layout menu, ensure that Lock/Unlock guides is not ticked.
4.On the Layout menu, click Set Column Guides, and then enter the column width and gutter you want.
5.On the Layout menu, click Set Module Guides, and then enter the module height and gutter you want.
Change color of layer guides
1.On the Edit menu, click Preferences.
2.On the Grid tab, under User defined guides, click the [... ] button and then select the color.
Notes
•The set of layer guides appears only on the layer where you created them.
•Layer guides overlap with the master guides, so you see both. See more about the subject in About master and layer guides.
•Columns created with the above procedure behave in the same way as those created on the masters. Anyway, the width of layer columns, gutters and modules is not read by VB.NET commands - they always read the master values.
