You can do only if by chance the prerequisites are already installed on the computer. See ClickOnce prerequisites. It is unlikely that hotel or Internet cafè will let you install prerequisites software.

•Prerequisites are not installed on the workstation. See ClickOnce prerequisites.

•An antivirus prevents ClickOnce applications to run. For example, the Panda or the Kaspersky antiviruses may block gn4 applications detecting them as virus.

The solution for the Panda Antivirus is modify its settings in Settings > Antivirus > Ask before neutralizing a virus. The default is false so the ClickOnce apps are blocked silently and the Clickonce fails with an error about file not found.

The solution for the Kaspersky antivirus is to exclude GN4 folders on the server and on the client from scanning.

There may be two reasons for this:

1. Microsoft Windows problem with syncing file system and registry

Delete all files in ClickOnce folders as they may be out of sync with registry (more details in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2713442).

After deleting files and folders, check that folders are empty indeed, as if some files werein use it would not be possible to delete them and the failure will happen again. In such case, reboot the computer to release files in use, delete again all files in the ClickOnce folders and then retry to run a ClickOnce application.

2. Wrong deploy version in the generated package

If the Clickonce generator is not updated, it creates a new package, but with the same deploy version.

To check it, look at the .application file, e.g. Fred4.application where you can find:

<assemblyIdentity name="Fred4.app" version="1.0.0.4700"

The number is generated by the script of the Clickonce generator reading from utils/clickoncerevisions.txt.

There may be various reasons:

See ClickOnce prerequisites.

See ClickOnce and browsers different than IE.

See About Chrome and ClickOnce problems.

See ClickOnce and protected mode.

For example, the Panda Antivirus may block gn4 apps detecting them as virus. The default is false so the ClickOnce apps are blocked silently and the Clickonce fails with an error about File not found.

It may happen that the local cache of the GN4 clients deployed with Clickonce does not work anymore.

You may get an error launching the ClickOnce that says:

Following errors were detected during this operation.

* [15/10/2013 09:57:31] System.Deployment.Application.DeploymentException (Subscription)

  - Unable to install this application because an application with the same identity is already installed. 

    To install this application, either modify the manifest version for this application 

    or uninstall the preexisting application.

  - Source: System.Deployment

  - Stack trace:

   at System.Deployment.Application.SubscriptionStore.CheckApplicationPayload(CommitApplicationParams commitParams)

   at System.Deployment.Application.SubscriptionStore.CommitApplication(SubscriptionState& subState,

   at System.Deployment.Application.ApplicationActivator.ActivateDeploymentWorker(Object state)

To fix the error, or in general, to cleanup your PC from all the ClickOnce packages installed during the time, you can run from the Command Prompt the following command:

rundll32 dfshim CleanOnlineAppCache

It may happen that a GN4 application stops loading and displays such message:

Activation of http://xxx.yyy.zzzz.kkkk/GN4/ClickOnce/Fred4.application resulted in exception. 

Following failure messages were detected:

  + Application manifest has either a different computed hash than the one specified or no hash specified at all. 

  + File, Fred4.exe.manifest, has a different computed hash than specified in manifest.

This may be due to the wrong proxy settings. Check the Internet options > Connections tab > LAN settings, and then check the settings. If Use automatic configuration script is enabled, the script may be wrong.

It may happen that a GN4 application stops loading and displays such message:

Activation of http://demo.teradp.com/apps/fred4.application resulted in exception. 

Following failure messages were detected:

 + Exception reading manifest from http://demo.teradp.com/apps/fred4.application: 

   the manifest may not be valid or the file could not be opened.

 + Deployment manifest is not semantically valid.

 + Deployment manifest identity contains missing or unsupported processor architecture.

 

This is due to either a wrong OS - you are attempting to run 64-bit ClickOnce from a 32-bit computer -, or you are using a 32-bit browser on a 64-bit OS, so the result is a failure.

If you are using a 32-bit OS

Double-check the GN4 URL you are connecting to. Ask the System Administrator which is the suitable URL for a 32-bit OS.

If you are using a 32-bit browser on a 64-bit OS

Switch to the 64-bit browser or ask the System Administrator which is the suitable URL for a 32-bit software.

•If add-ins are not loaded in the GN4 database, or are not up-to-date with the ClickOnce package, the startup will fail with an error message. In such case, load add-ins in the database as explained in Loading add-ins in the GN4 database.

There might be an issue connecting from the remote office via ClickOnce. The application(s) would launch and then immediately crash.

The possible reason could be that the default REQUIRED color profiles weren’t installed on the computer. After installing them, GN4 could launch.
Click to toggle expandI've run ClickOnce but article tree doesn't appear or there are other scripts greyed out.

In versions prior to 2.1.2439 there is a bug related to the the version of the Internet Explorer displayed in the web preview which depends on the FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION registry key.

If there was no value with the name of the executable in the registry key, a silent crash occurred when opening an article so some parts of the user interface were missing

For example, Ted4 crashed if the registry value 'SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Internet Explorer\ MAIN\ FeatureControl\ FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION\ Ted4.exe' was missing.

Add the key for Ted, Fred and EdAdmin.
