Standard defaults handle the typographical characteristics of parts of text that are not explicitly formatted by GNML tags, and can be superseded. Special defaults handle both formatted and unformatted text, and cannot be superseded.

•To supersede standard defaults settings in GNML user-defined tags and GNML style, specify an appropriate GNML tag in the style code.
