A series of values is automatically set when you create a new format. Such values are named "defaults". When you assign a format to a text, defaults are automatically applied on text.
There are three classes of defaults:
They include standard defaults for unformatted text as character defaults, paragraph defaults, and special defaults as hyphenation defaults, justification defaults and XML defaults. Note: to format single element headlines, e.g. with no kicker or subheads, you can use format defaults instead to making a single style library.
They include default type, category, and geometry depth (to match formats and articles/stories)
Default text and paragraph copy fit sets.
