Introduction to the logical groups of page objects

The logical groups of page objects are fully implemented since the version 2.1.

The logical groups allow to "group" page objects together, but you will still be able to select each "grouped" page object and modify it separately of the other members of the same logical group (unlike for the case of the "physically" grouped page objects).

You can add to a logical group any page object, including frames, rules, boxes, picture placeholders and real pictures (not the page and layer guides, though). Moreover, you can remove objects from the logical group.

The logical groups of objects allow you to do the content linking in I4, and are essential for the automated page make-up.

By default, the version 2.1 brings the logical grouping of all the objects you create with the Head and Body Tool (see more info in Text frame tools). Moreover, the other objects you add manually to such logical groups, if they overlap the members of the logical group, are added automatically to the same logical group.

To turn off such behavior, see Disable manual logical groups in 2.1.

Note

Logical groups in 2.1 do not replace the linking of the content - the objects in the same logical groups are "tied" one to each other, but the text can flow from one frame to another only if an article gets linked to the frames.
