Imposition |
Refers to the arrangement of pages on a printed sheet, which when the sheet is finally printed, folded and trimmed, will place the pages in their correct order. |
Indent |
Moving a line of type to the left or right. First-line indents are used to indicate the first line of a new paragraph. |

Initial cap |
An oversized first letter for the first word in an article. Same as ornamental cap or fancy first letter. Compare drop cap, raised cap, and image cap. |
Inline |
(graphic) Anchored graphic that moves with text. |
Insert |
A flyer or magazine that is inserted into the folded newspaper after it has been printed |
Inside |
Not on the front page, as in, "we'll run this story inside." |
Interactive justification |
The background process which hyphenates and justifies text while you type. |
Intercap, intracap |
The practice of spelling a proper name with one or more capital letters in the middle, e.g. TrueType. Also called camel cap. |
Interrobang |
A combination exclamation point and question mark, proposed in the 1960's. Sometimes found today in display fonts. |
Intro |
The first paragraph of a story. Also known as a lead. It usually consists of one sentence. It is the main news point, clearly and simply stated. Readers are known to make a decision about whether to read further just from the intro - even a few words of the intro. So this is the most important part of a news story. |
