Question 1: In which part of Fred4 or Ted4 you noticed the display problem? •Only in Ted4 or Fred4 source panel, but the font is displayed correctly in Ted4 WYSIWYG panel or Fred4 page, see Fonts are not displayed correctly in Ted4 or Fred4 source panel. •In both source and WYSIWYG panel/page - proceed to the next question: Question 2: Are the screen fonts correctly installed on the workstation? On every GN4 workstation, all the fonts used by GN4 have to be installed in Microsoft Windows. •Check if screen fonts are listed in the Windows Fonts folder (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Fonts). If they are not - install screen fonts either manually or by deploying. See Prepare your workstation for fonts import, and About installing Type I fonts on Windows. Make sure the fonts are installed on all other GN4 workstations and servers. If they are installed - proceed to the next question. Question 3: Are the screen fonts correctly assigned to GN4 fonts? The screen (display) font have to be correctly assigned to GN4 fonts. This is typically done automatically during fonts import, but the assignment may fail under certain conditions. •Make sure the appropriate video font is assigned to each font. Look at the Font properties, paragraph Video font. If the screen fonts were not assigned correctly, correct them and then retry. If the screen fonts were assigned correctly, proceed to the next question. Question 4: Is the GN4 font layout correctly assigned to GN4 fonts? The GN4 font layouts have to be correctly assigned to GN4 fonts. Wrong layouts may cause various displaying and printing problems, such as overlapping characters and similar. •Review assigned font layouts as explained in Reviewing font layouts paragraph in the Font layouts topic. If the layouts were not assigned correctly, correct them and then retry. If the layouts were assigned correctly, but you reimported or changed the font layout(s), reimport fonts. Question 5: Is the kerning table of the font appropriate? Every GN4 font normally has a kerning table. Wrong kerning pairs may cause various displaying and printing problems, such as overlapping characters and similar. •Review kerning pairs in a font as explained in Add kerning pairs in a font topic. If the kerning pairs were not assigned correctly, correct them and then retry. If the kerning pairs were assigned correctly, and the problem still persists, contact Tera support desk for further help. Question 6: Is the font family assigned to fonts correctly? GN4, for the typeface style purpose (bold/italic), allows that only one member of the font family marked as bold, only one member of the font family marked as italic, and only one member of the font family marked as bold italic. If more family members are marked as either bold, italic or bold italic, various misbehavior may occur. The problem may happen during fonts import, if the font family contains more than 4 members. In such case, assign some fonts a different font family. Have in mind that the font family is used in GN4 only for typeface style. An example: The font family FranklinGothicStd contains 10 members (Book, Demi, Heavy), whereas two members are marked as bold, two as italic, and two as bold italic. This was causing the change of the Roman font when applying bold by SHIFT+CTRL+B. The solution was to move the Demi and Heavy members to a new family FranklinGothicDemi and FranklinGothicHvy, in the way that each family had only one member marked as bold. |
Question 1: Are the fonts correctly installed on the workstations? On every GN4 workstation, all the fonts used by GN4 have to be installed in Microsoft Windows. •Check if screen fonts are listed in the Windows Fonts folder (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Fonts). If they are not - install screen fonts either manually or by deploying.. Make sure the fonts are installed on all other GN4 workstations and servers. If they are installed - proceed to the next question. Question 2: Are the fonts correctly installed on the server? On every GN4 server, all the fonts used by GN4 have to be installed in Microsoft Windows. On every GN4 server, all the fonts used by GN4, have to be copied into drive:\Program Files\Common Files\TeraDP\PDFLib\Resource\Font. Question 3: Are the PFB fonts correctly assigned to GN4 fonts? The PFB fonts have to be correctly assigned to GN4 fonts. This is typically done automatically during fonts import, but the assignment may fail under certain conditions. •Make sure that PFB file name appears correctly. If the PFB fonts were not assigned correctly, correct them and then retry. If the PFB fonts were assigned correctly, or if you are not using PFB fonts, proceed to the next question. Question 4: Is the GN4 font layout correctly assigned to GN4 fonts? The GN4 font layouts have to be correctly assigned to GN4 fonts. Wrong layouts may cause various displaying and printing problems, such as overlapping characters and similar. •Review assigned font layouts as explained in the Reviewing font layouts paragraph in the Font layouts topic. If the layouts were not assigned correctly, correct them and then retry. If the layouts were assigned correctly, but you reimported or changed the font layout(s), reimport fonts. •Check in the font layout if all the characters have a Postscript name assigned. This applies to characters different of a-Z and A-Z, and it is especially true when printing in Cyrillic or Greek or other non-Latin alphabets. Question 5: Is the kerning table of the font appropriate? Every GN4 font normally has a kerning table. Wrong kerning pairs may cause displaying and printing problems, such as overlapping characters or wrong distance between characters, and similar. •Review kerning pairs in a font as explained in Add kerning pairs in a font topic. If the kerning pairs were not assigned correctly, correct them and then retry. If the kerning pairs were assigned correctly, and the problem still persists, contact Tera support desk for further help. |
