Type I fonts (sometimes known also as Adobe fonts) consist of three files:

AFM font file that is Adobe Font Metrics, containing kerning data and typographical information.

PFM font file that is Printer Font Metrics, that you can import in Windows.

PFB font file that is Printer Font Bitmaps, that contains actual character shapes.

Have in mind that all three files come together and they are supposed to be available. If not all are available, you need at least the PFM and the PFB font file. AFM fonts are needed when you import installed fonts in GN4 database.

Install Type I font in Microsoft Windows

1.Make sure that the PFM and its related PFB font file are in the same folder

2.Right-click the PFM font file and then select Install.

The PFM file is not used by GN4 but it is vital for the generation of a True Type equivalent of the font.

For printing, GN4 - when using Type I fonts - uses only PFB files, therefore does not need PFM, AFM, INF nor other files.
