Font layout is a list of character codes, PostScript names, and XML codes of each character.

GN4 uses font layout data to know the ordinal position of each of characters within the font, their type, PostScript name and XML related code. The GN4 font layouts are supplied by TERA.

During fonts installing, you have to assign the appropriate font layout to fonts.

The font layout to be used for all Roman fonts (i.e. non-symbol and with standard Latin 1 characters ones) is UNICODE. Tera supplies an example of UNICODE font layout, suitable for Western languages. Customers may create customized UNICODE font layouts with characters for Central Europe or Eastern languages, and/or including Cyrillic characters etc.

Important: Apply DINGBATS or SYMBOL layout to non-letter fonts such as Dingbats, or Symbol, or similar

REVIEWING ASSIGNED FONT LAYOUTS

The currently assigned font layout is shown in the main screen of the Font Manager (see Font properties). Run Font manager to review the list of fonts and check if the correct layout is applied to every font. If you failed to assign the correct font layout, reassign layout.

You can edit or import font layouts by means of the Layout Editor in the EdAdmin4.
