When copying articles from one edition (or page) to another, GN4 will create new unique article names, or new geometry.
For each article, the list, shown in the Articles copy dialog box, contains the name, folder and region of the original, and the name, folder and region of the copy.
You can adjust names by adding prefix, or suffix, or by changing the rest of the name.
Adjust article names
1.Do one of the following:
•In Prefix or Suffix, enter an optional string to be added to text copies, .
•To change the common beginnings of the existing names, in the If starts with box, enter the common prefix, and in the Replace with box, enter the new string.
•To change the common content of the existing names, in the If contains box, enter the string you expect to find in all articles, and in the Replace with box, enter the new string.
•To change the common endings of the existing names, in the If ends with box, enter the common suffix, and in the Replace with box, enter the new string.
2.Click Apply.
Manually rename one or more copies
To manually change the names, select one or more articles or stories in the list, click Edit new name, and then enter a new name for each selected article.
Note
If the article name you've adjusted already exists in the system, GN4 will automatically variate it, by adding a tilde and a number. On the following screenshot, the Copy oftestjump21 already existed when we attempted another copying: silently, the new copy was renamed as Copy oftestjump21~078.
About multiple geometries
A special function is available if the source and destination regions are not the same. Since GN4 supports multiple geometries for one story (i.e. a single story can be linked to various pages, having on each page different number of columns, depth and format), you can decide to create a new geometry for a story, instead to create a duplicate of the story. Note: your system must be set in an appropriate way to support such functionality.
See Multiple geometries and Create a new geometry for articles on copied page.
