Personalize article source pane

1.On the Edit menu, click Preferences.

2.On the Display tab, in the Size box, enter the size value*.

3.In the Colors section, do one or all of the following

•In Standard text, select a foreground color for text. The recommended colors are black or dark blue.

•In Window background color, select a background color. White is the default.

•In Markup, select a foreground color for GNML tags. You can also select Use background color and choose a color, to highlight tags better.

•In HTML, select a foreground color for HTML tags. You can also select Use background color and choose a color, to highlight tags better.

•In In Region, select a foreground and optionally background color for the text in the current region**.

•In Out Region, select a foreground and optionally background color for the text not in the current region**.

* The size setting is resolution dependent. 18 gives a good readability on 1024 x 768, and roughly corresponds to the default font size in Microsoft Word on the same resolution.

** This makes sense only if your system is using regionalized text.

You can choose colors for display in Ted4. This applies on standard text, tags, and text in special status. On the Edit menu, click Preferences, and then on the Colors tab, select what you want.

STANDARD TEXT

•Window background color: select the background color of the source pane.

•Standard text: select such foreground color for the text in the source pane that will increase the readability of text and combine well with the selected background color of the source pane. We recommend black, or navy blue. Shade (background) color, strike-out and underline makes no sense for the standard text.

Here are some guidelines for choosing screen colors. If you have difficulties to read black text on white background, or you feel uncomfortable with any text color over white background, change the color of the screen. First, try different colored backgrounds. Look at the screen and ask yourself whether the readability and comfort improved with new color of the background. Try all the different colors with black text. Do not forget to also try black background with white letters.

Then, you may want to change the text color (foreground). Some people see better and more comfortably with text that is low contrast or a similar color family to the background, others prefer high contrast resulting from a totally different color text, others prefer white text, and some prefer black text. Try colors, black and white print until you find the combination that Is comfortable to look at, the text is easy to read and it stands out from the background, clear and stable.

Some people find it easier to see when the text is larger. Change the size of the font until the text is easy to see. Moreover, most people find that reading simple, unstylized block in non-proportional text is easier. .

GNML AND HTML TAGS

•Markup tags: select such foreground color for tags displayed in the source pane that will increase a visual contrast between tags and text, and still be suitable for the selected background color of the source pane. Strike-out and underline makes no sense for the markup tags, and while you may want to experiment with shade (background color) to make tags even more distinct, have in mind that the same attributes are applied on the special markers and column jumps.

•HTML codes in the text: select a suitable foreground and background color, which will increase a visual contrast between HTML tags, markup tags and text. Strike-out and underline makes no sense for HTML tags.

TEXT IN SPECIAL STATUS

•In region: select colors for the parts of text which belongs to the active region, thus is appears on the WYSIWYG pane and on page. Note: this parameters makes sense only if you are editing texts that contain parts, assigned to different regions, being those publishing channels (text for Web, text for SMS etc), or geographical regions (Metro, North, etc). Strike-out attribute makes no sense for text in active region.

•Out region: select colors for the parts of text which belongs to all other regions but the active region, thus is does not appear on the WYSIWYG pane and on page. You may want to set the strike-out attribute for such text.

•Notes mode: select colors, and optionally the strike-out attribute for parts of text in notes mode. Separate setting are available for each notes mode level from 1 through 254. You can add new levels. The number of levels depends on the configuration of your system. The level 1 is typically used for the standard hidden text. Additional levels may be used for different routing of text parts, or any other purpose. Contact System Administrator for further details.

•Versions: select colors for text of previous versions.

We measured how many lines of text fit on screen, with Courier New, on various screen resolutions. We used the fixed line width of 60 characters, and removed all the toolbars.

1.On the Edit menu, click Preferences.

2.On the Display tab, in the Default font, select what you want. Courier is the default.

3.In Src panel pixel horizontal margin, enter what you want. 1 is the default

The selected font overrides any other preview font if you switch to the draft font. Note that symbol fonts, such as Dingbats are also displayed in the selected font. Good choices are Courier New (not Courier), or Arial.

The same font is used for formatting marks (paragraph marks and text justification marks), display tags (when visible), hidden text, or entire text (when the Use video fonts check box is unticked).

1.On the Edit menu, click Preferences.

2.On the Display tab, under Caret width, in Insert, specify the width in pixels of the standard cursor. 2 is the default.

3.In Overwrite, enter the width in pixels of the overwrite cursor. 10 is the default.

To change cursor blink rate, use the Control Panel, and then under Keyboard, select the blink rate. Note: this is stored on the workstation, and not in your GN4 preferences.

3.On the Colors tab, select a notes level, and then set color. The recommended colors are blue (if you like to have it well visible), or dark yellow.

In the personal preferences you can set an optional text editing width as a number of characters.

If it is specified, when editing a text in source mode with interactive justification disabled, the left/right margins are automatically computed so that each line will contain the specified number of characters in the default font.

When interactive justification is enabled this parameter is ignored and the normal pixel margins apply.

You can show or hide element names on the splitters in the source pane of Ted4. When element names are displayed, you have a information about current element even if the article tree is hidden.

artnames

On the Edit menu, click Preferences, then under Others, select Show element names in article source splitters. The setting is stored in the ArtShowSrcNames key under TxtParam key in the TedConf personal preferences of each user. Set ArtShowSrcNames ="True" to activate the names in splitters.

Moreover, you can click the element name to collapse or display an element. Collapsed elements are marked with the right arrow. On the preceding screenshot above, head is collapsed, and body is expanded.
