GN4 provides three methods to fit headlines and text to frames:
•Fitting presets
•Flexible spacing & leading
•Step-by-step adjustments.
Fitting presets provide two kinds of fitting: the fitting of a single paragraph, or of an entire text. A fitting preset act on text size, horizontal scale, tracking and word spacing, within specified limits, independent for each method. The fitting presets do not affect the leading and vertical spacing, therefore, the text will continue to be aligned to the baseline grid after fitting. You can specify Typically, you will use different presets for headlines, body text and other article elements. The same fitting preset can be used for the fitting of a single paragraph, or of an entire text. See Configuring fitting presets for the setup procedure.

Flexible spacing provide auto fitting of entire text, by varying text leading and/or the space above paragraphs in all text, or in the designated part. In a multi-column text, another step - even spreading - is required after each text editing. The leading variation is controlled by the predefined limits, specified by the parameters within a style. The fitting will fail if the fitting operation would require larger changes than permitted. See Flexible spacing, Fit text by setting flexible leading, Fit text by setting flexible paragraph spacing and Distribute flexible spacing evenly. |
They provide manual fitting of a single or selected paragraphs, by varying type size, leading, horizontal or vertical scale, tracking, and similar. The adjustments are based on custom scripts. Such scripts may be set to respect predefined limits, or to allow any percentage of change. See Fit text adjusting step-by-step. |
