Check if a page is ready to be converted into a library object

You need to verify a ready-made page to find out if it is suitable for the conversion into a APM library object.

Note: the term LG refers to logical groups.

Which page is suitable to create the shapes from?

To be suitable to create the shapes from, a page must satisfy the following prerequisites:

All the frames and image boxes on the page must be linked to the articles. The exception are the items with the local text or images that act as page stationery. Such items must have the object type = none. See Select a frame type.

It is recommended that the headline frames are all separated, e.g. kicker, head, subhead, should all flow in separate frames. In such case, the formatting should be based on formats, and not contain any styles. See the About headline types and formatting methods chapter for more details.

All the frames and image boxes, including ones with the page stationery, must be part of a LG. Before starting this procedure, check your logical groups status accurately, especially if the page layout was created manually. In doubt, use the middle-click to select the entire LG, and then press the LEFT or the RIGHT ARROW key: if all the expected elements move together, your LG is ok.

All the frames must have the appropriate formats assigned and it has to be the same as the Tool format.  IMPORTANT: this applies not only the first frame in the flow, but to all the frames! . When re-applying a format, select all the frames of the same type in the LG. Use the Tool palette to check the Tool value, and the Format toolbar to check the frame format value.

All the LGs must have the appropriate content position assigned. If any of the LGs has no content position, the procedure will be automatically aborted.

All the text in the frames must fit - if any article is not fitting, the procedure will be automatically aborted. The fitting status is required because the software counts the characters in the text and stores the value as the frame capacity. If the text is fitting because you applied the typographical fitting, the stored characters count will be imprecise, as the frame capacity of non fitted text will be different. If the fitting is not excessive, you can still use it.

Verify the logical groups number and structure

1.Count the number of LGs on the page - it has to correspond to the number of assumed articles on the page. If your layout plans two articles on the page, you need to have exactly 2 logical groups. See Count the number of the logical groups on page. If the number of LGs is unexpected, e.g. less or more than the number of articles supposed to be linked to that page, it means that the page contains objects that are not part any logical groups, but they are logical groups on their own. Click each and verify. Have in mind that the objects that are not part of any logical group will become a new logical group once placed on a page!

2.Middle-click each article and verify its LG name. See Review the name of the logical group.

3.Press the LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW key to move an entire logical group, and make sure that all its expected members move together. If not, regenerate the logical group name.

Verify the creation order of the frames and images

1.Display the labels and check that the order of all frames is what you expect. Otherwise, reorder the frames to be in the expected order. See Reorder frames in a library object.

2.Display the Tool palette, and check that the order of all the images is what you expect. Otherwise, reorder the image boxes. See Reorder images in a library object.

Verify the formats and Tool on all the frames

1.Check that all the frames show the same value in the Format box of the Tool palette and in the Format toolbar. It happens frequently that only the first body frame has the appropriate custom format and tool, while the other body frames have the default format and tool.

Verify the content position of all the page objects

1.Check that all the objects have a content position.

2.Make sure that all the members of a LG have the required content position. Check all LGs.

Verify the fitting of all the text elements on the page

1.On every text element, perform the text unfitting.

2.Check that all text in all the frames of all the articles is fitting. Otherwise, add temporarily some text, or remove some, to make them fit. It is recommended not to use the automatic fitting to fit the text, as the software uses the number of characters in the article to know the frames capacity.
