Note: You have to configure the jump lines before using them. See Configuring jump lines.
See also Link text to more pages for instructions how to link a text to more pages.
1.On the Pages main tab of Fred4, open the pages where the text flows and select the page where the text starts. 2.Click to select the last body frame of the text. 3.On the Tools menu, point to Frames, and then click Add Jump Frame on Bottom, or press CTRL+J. Fred4 inserts the jump line frame on bottom of the selected body frame, activates an automatic runaround and links the frame to the text. Depending on your configuration, you may be prompted to insert a jumpline content (if your "jump to" jump line contains &1 and &2 placeholders - see Configuring jump lines for further info). Note If you are creating a jump line on an article that is not yet linked to a jump page (because you will do it later), the automatic page number in the jump line (generated by # placeholder) may read 0. To update the jump line page number after you actually linked the article to a jump page, select the jump line frame and then on the View menu, point to Refresh and then select Story, or select All. Do the same if you move a jump article to another page. |
1.On the Pages main tab of Fred4, open the jump page. 2.Click to select the first body frame of the text. 3.On the Tools menu, point to Frames, and then click Add Jump Frame on Top, or press SHIFT+J. Fred4 inserts the jump line frame on top of the selected body frame, creates an automatic runaround, and links the frame to the text. |
To create a backward jump line, do as above, but the jump line should be Continues from page >writei PrevPageNum< |
Notes
•Jump lines are not removed automatically if you unlink or delete content on the jump page. You have to delete them manually.
•Automatic page numbers, obtained by # placeholder or directly, are based on GNML variables NextPageNum and PrevPageNum, that handle correctly only single pages. In other words, if an article jumps from/to right side of a double page, numbered as 46/47, the PrePageNum/NextPageNum will read 46 and not 47. At the moment, there's no workaround for this.
