Keep formatting when overwriting selection

Build 1501 on 14/Nov/2017  This topic last edited on: 18/Mar/2016, at 09:20

Typically, if you start to type while some text is highlighted, the selection is overwritten by the character you typed. Since the version 2.2, you can make sure that the formatting is always kept. In the previous versions, the formatting may be kept but there are cases when the formatting returns to the default.

To turn on the keep formatting when overwriting selection (version 2.2 or newer)

See Configure keeping of paragraph formatting.

The paragraph formatting is KEPT when overwriting selection in the following cases

This applies to the versions prior to 2.2, or to the version 2.2 if you do not turn on the keeping of paragraph formatting.

If the selection includes a part of the paragraph, but not the end of the paragraph sign ¶.

If the selection includes the entire only paragraph in text, but it does not have the paragraph sign ¶ (even if you pressed CTRL+A).

The paragraph formatting RETURNS TO DEFAULT when overwriting selection by typing in the following cases:

This applies to the versions prior to 2.2, or to the version 2.2 if you do not turn on the keeping of paragraph formatting.

If you pressed CTRL+A to select the whole text and the first paragraph has the end of the paragraph sign ¶.

If you selected the entire paragraph and included its paragraph sign ¶.

A way to avoid to lose the paragraph formatting

This applies to the versions prior to 2.2, or to the version 2.2 if you do not turn on the keeping of paragraph formatting.

1.Select manually in the way that the first letter of the first selected paragraph is not included.

2.Type over at least one letter or word.

3.Now, delete the first letter you kept temporarily.

4.Move at the end of the text and then continue to type.

The formatting is kept.
