You can perform GN4 configuring in the following ways:
You can configure all GN4 aspects by editing various XML configuration files, stored in \config subfolders. You can use any XML editor to do it, or you can also use Visual Studio Express (that you need anyway to edit add-ins). For the changes to become visible to GN4 users, you need to re-import all changed files in the GN4 database, and all GN4 users need to sign out and back in to GN4 applications. Depending on the changed file, it may be necessary to reset the IIS on all IIS servers, or recycle GN4 application pools on all IIS servers, to restart Back4 service, to reload schema etc. Important note: if you opt for such editing, have in mind that the re-import procedure syncs the database with changes in XML file. If the database configuration did not correspond to the previous version of the loaded configuration file (because someone edited it directly, through EdAdmin4), you will loose these changes. See Configuration files for the list of files and further info. |
You can configure a number of GN4 aspects through EdAdmin4 or through the Administrative Browser. Important note: if you opt for such editing, have in mind that changes are only in the GN4 database, and not synced with GN4 configuration files in XML format. Hence, if you ever re-import GN4 configuration files in XML format, you will possibly loose your changes applied by direct editing through EdAdmin4. See Using EdAdmin4 to edit configurations and EdAdmin4, and also GN4 Administrative Browser. |
GN4 application such as Ted4, Fred4 and EdAdmin4 use VB.Net add-ins as a (re)configuring foundations. You need Visual Studio Express or Visual Studio 2010 to edit add-ins. See Managing GN4 add-ins and Working with GN4 Scripts for further info. |
You can edit some personal preferences in GN4 applications. The preferences are stored in your GN4 database, and are local for it. See Personal Preferences. |
GNWeb gets configured in its own Web interface. Please see the documentation supplied with GNWeb. |
