GN4 add-ins are edited in the Visual Studio Community or Express Edition that is a freeware tool to create .NET applications on Windows using VB.NET

You can download Visual Studio Express from the Microsoft Web site (see Install Visual Studio Express for links).

You can use Visual Studio Express to edit also GN4 configuration files in the XML format.

After editing, add-ins have to be compiled (see Compiling add-ins), while modified configuration files have to be imported in the GN4 database. See Re-importing configuration file in the database after making changes.

Note: if you have a copy of Visual Studio, you can use it instead of Visual Studio Express.

Do not use newer versions of Visual Studio Express unless instructed to do so in this documentation!
