Permanent colors are stored in database and they are common for all the editions of all titles assigned to the same typography. Quick colors are local for page objects or formatted text, and unlike permanent colors, they are not stored in the color table, and cannot be renamed.
Create permanent colors in the EdAdmin4 > Editorial Configuration > Typography > Edit Colors or in the Page Editor Fred4 (Edit > Edit Colors), following an appropriate structured approach (adding only the colors which are really needed). Create quick colors when editing page or text.
Colors are created by entering CMYK or RGB values. Color picker and import from color files, such as PANTONE, FOCOLTON, TRUEMATCH and similar is not supported by GN4.

You can apply any tint value to a permanent color - it does not change the color definition. |
The tint value is part of the color definition and you cannot change it except by editing the color itself. When you change values of tint, the color percentage is recalculated instead. |
All colors from the color table appear in the color palettes. |
Only the last selected quick color appears in the color list. |
When you add new color, it appears in both palettes. |
When you add new color, it appears only in the current palette. |
When you switch to another page, the color list remains the same. |
When you switch to another page, the quick colors created on the previous page are not listed anymore. |
Use permanent colors for all the re-usable colors. Use quick colors for any color you need only on one object of the specific page or of specific text.
