Tables in GN4 makes part of the text content. Normally the table content flows in the same frame as the rest of the body text. However, you can put the table content in a separate frame, and assign to it an independent format.

Genuine tables

The term 'genuine tables' apply on the tables you create by the dialog box, as explained in Create a table. Genuine tables can be easily modified in structure and formatted by the dialog boxes, practically with no need to use directly GNML tags or to be familiar with them.

The working with genuine tables is described in Creating Tables, Creating Sport Tables by Example, Selecting in a Table, Editing Tables, Formatting Tables, Table Rules and Fills, Table Styles.

Style-based tables

The term 'style-based tables' apply on the tables you create by applying custom paragraph styles. Such tables have a fixed structure and formatting, that you can change only by editing GNML tags in the style, that requires you are familiar with them. The style-based tables allow a higher automation level than the genuine tables.

The working with style-based tables is described in Style-based Tables.
