You need to decide which is the best moment to create a change page as a copy of a source page.
It depends on your editorial procedures. This topic describes the typical scenarios and typical variations.
Note: all scenarios assume you will not repeat the copying of the source page to the change page after you did it the first time. Should this become necessary, see the paragraph Re-syncing the change page with the source page.
Typical scenarios
If the work on change page begins after the first edition is done, it means that you have to create change pages when the first edition pages are all in ready workstate. This is the simplest and the recommended scenario. The most important implication is that you will be totally free to change anything in content or layout on the change pages, without need to re-sync again either the content or layout with the source pages. |
If the work on change page begins in the middle of the work on the first edition, it means that you can create change pages at any moment after the layout has been set on a source page, and/or some or all articles have been linked to the source page. The considerations you need to make depend on the level of the variations you expect to apply to the change pages.
•If you copy an incomplete source page to the change page, you have to This ensures that you won't need to re-copy the source pages to change editions. |
If the work on change page begins at the same time as the work on the first edition, it means that you can create change pages immediately after the first edition has been created and the pages and ads have been imported, but before there is any layout or link on the source page. |

Re-syncing the change page with the source page
When copying again the source page on the change page, make sure you do not replace the change page editorial layer, but that you add another one.
For the purpose of this explanation, let's call the previous editorial layer the "first copy editorial layer" and the layer, added by the second copying, the "second copy editorial layer".
When the copying is done, on the change page you will end up temporarily with two editorial layers. You do not need both permanently. See which articles/layout you want to keep from the "first copy editorial layer", make the space on the "second copy editorial layer" and move the content there as explained in Move or copy objects to another layer. Alternatively, do the opposite: make the space on the "first copy editorial layer" and move one or more articles there. When done, delete the editorial layer you do not need anymore.
