Firstly read the breaking changes for the version 2.3 and then prepare an upgrade plan.

Then, do all the following - if it applies on your GN4 system - BEFORE you start the upgrade!

ON THE SERVERS AND CLIENTS

•Provide to install the .Net Framework 4.6.1 and run-time libraries for VS 2015 on all GN4 servers and workstations. Moreover, on the workstations of the users who maintain the scripts and compile them, install the appropriate version of the Visual Studio (See Visual Studio Community or Express Edition). The full list of prerequisites is in System Prerequisites, and the full list of the required downloads is in Download version 2.3 released for the server and in Download version 2.3 released for the client (if not using ClickOnce).
