Status Bar

Build 1501 on 14/Nov/2017  This topic last edited on: 25/Oct/2016, at 14:15

The status bar of the Articles main tab is context sensitive and displays various information. The status bar is not configurable (thus you cannot choose what to display and in which order). The fields width is proportionally scaled with the main window, so all of them are displayed even when the main window width is narrow (but in some of them the information may be truncated). You cannot turn off the status bar.

During text editing, the status bar of the Articles main tab contains:

When a page is loaded (editing text)

pages_statusbar2

During text editing, the status bar of the Pages main tab in Fred4 becomes as the status bar of the Articles main tab, and it contains:

1.Current cursor position (current row:current character).

2.GNML tags display status (Cmd On=displayed; Cmd Off=hidden).

3.Auto-justification status (Inter=active).

4.The folder of the article, its name, the type of the selected element, and the database id of the text element. When editing local text, the field shows /-id: xx where xx is the internal id.

5.Text depth on the position of cursor, expressed in the vertical measurement unit, selected in your personal text editing preferences. This is grayed out and inaccurate if the text is unjustified.

6.Total depth of text, expressed in the vertical measurement unit, selected in your personal text editing preferences, or also in multiple of text default leading (default leading, specified in the format). This is grayed out and zero if the text is unjustified.

7.Overset value, in lines. The value 0 means the content is fitting, a negative value means the content is too short, a positive value means it is too long. If the value is not 0, the color is red. The counter is related to the leading of the current line, e.g. if your I-beam cursor is in a 9pt body line, the under/overset value is different than when the cursor is in a 12pt column head line. This is grayed out and zero if the text is unjustified.

8.Text formatting errors mark: OK if no errors, or a red Errors marker. Double click it to display the Justification error palette with a detailed description of justification errors.

9.Format of the current text. When editing a local text and there is a current article, the field shows the format of the local text.

10.Characters and words counter (depends on your personal text editing preferences).

11.Status of saved changes (Modified=there are unsaved changes; blank=no unsaved changes).

12.Deadline time marker. Double-click to display the dialog box. If article is not linked to any page, and the manual deadline is not set, the field shows --:--.

13.Fixed string Ted.

Configuring status bar

Status bar is not configurable.

Note

When mentioning multiples of text leading, it is related to the default leading, as specified in the format.

Fixes in version 1.5

The status bar area now handles multiple windows correctly and also no longer displays the recover document message when opening more than one windows.
