The hyphenation in text is typically enabled/disabled either in the text format, and/or in the paragraph style applied on text paragraphs (if any), and/or by the Paragraph palette setting.
The hyphenation is not automatically turned off when you select the "Left" as paragraph alignment.
If the hyphenation is turned on or off on the level of text format, text paragraph style and/or palette and the settings are conflicting one with each other(e.g. one turns the hyphenation off while another turns the hyphenation on), the priority is the following:
•Palette hyphenation setting (it overrides both the paragraph style settings and format settings)
•Paragraph style hyphenation setting (it overrides the format settings)
•Format hyphenation setting
Note: this will work independently of the paragraph style or format defaults settings.

This will work if: •You will apply on the text paragraphs a paragraph style that turns on or off the hyphenation. •You did not use the overrides by the Paragraph palette. If the above is not true, your changes will not be effective on text. Do one of the following: •When editing paragraph style from text: see Edit paragraph style from text for instructions how to edit a style, on the Edit Paragraph Style dialog box click GNML Tags, click Paragraph button, and then on the General tab, tick or untick the Hyphenation check box. When ticked, the hyphenation is enabled. •When editing paragraph style in EdAdmin4: See Edit a style in EdAdmin4 for instructions on how edit a style, on the Edit Paragraph Style dialog box click GNML Tags, click Paragraph button, and then on the General tab, tick or untick the Hyphenation check box. When ticked, the hyphenation is enabled. |
