GN4 uses the Liang algorithm for hyphenation, combined with exception dictionaries with list of words. The implementation of the algorithm has been done by Miles 33, so GN4 does not rely on external plug-ins for hyphenation. The Liang algorithm is based on patterns. The same code can generate different hyphenation - even for different languages - depending on the patterns used. You can modify the patterns.
You should enable the automatic hyphenation by default in the body text format, and disable it in headline formats, so no user action is required.
Perform steps below only if text is not hyphenated and you want it to be.
1. | Select the text block you want to hyphenate automatically. |
2. | On the Type menu, point to Character, and then click Character palette. |
3. | On the H&M tab, in the Hyp. rule list, select a language, and then click OK. |
4. | On the Gen tab, click Hyphenation. |
