•Can I work from home?
Yes, you can work from home, provided you have an Internet connection and the software is installed on your home computer. It's legal to install the software on home computer, as many copies as you want. If your newsroom provides for the auto-installation procedure, you can download the software (almost) automatically (some prerequisites may be additionally required on older computers). •Can I work offline?
No, generally in GN4 you cannot work offline, unless you have the entire software (server, client, Web server and database) installed on your laptop (totally feasible, but it requires quite powerful laptop, a SQL server license, and GN4 license. Still, there are no standard procedures to move/send your offline content to the central server. Since the version 2.3 you can work offline with InDesign documents.
•Where is my content stored?
Your content is stored on the GN4 server, in the database.
•Can I store my content locally?
Generally no. Your content is stored on the GN4 server, in the database. An exception are InDesign documents. Since the version 2.3 you can work offline with InDesign documents.
•I can't remember which user name I've used to sign in to my workstation?
If you are logged on right now, look at the title bar. Otherwise, ask your Systems Administrator.
•Where are my preferences stored?
Your preferences are stored on the GN4 server, in the database. Thus, you can sign in to any computer and still have the same preferences available. An exception are Adobe applications whose preferences are stored locally.
•Why can't I access to all folders?
Because your copy flow defines certain work steps, and only certain users are authorized for them.
•How come that some users have more/less functionalities available?
This depends on the permissions. Users with more permissions have access to more functionalities.
•Why I cannot work when the server is down?
Because all things you need are there. Anyhow, since your system probably has more than one server, the "down" periods are supposed not to happen at all, or to be very short.
•My GN4 refuses to start or crashes on startup.
