Paragraph spacing

1.Select the paragraphs where you want to change the spacing.
2.On the Type menu, point to Paragraph, and then click Paragraph Palette.
3.Do one of the following:

•In Space before, enter the appropriate value expressed in any allowed typographical measurement unit.

•In Space below, enter the appropriate value expressed in any allowed typographical measurement unit.

Note

It is not possible to specify the percentage based spacing, for example, 90%, but only the absolute typographical value.

Important

The paragraph spacing changes are subject to the lock to the baseline grid. See Paragraph leading and lock to the baseline grid.

Press CTRL+ALT+Right arrow, and then click Space Above Paragraph, or Space Between Paragraphs. Press ALT+Right Arrow.

To reduce spacing

Press ALT+Left Arrow.

To clear changes

Press CTRL+ALT+Left Arrow.

Note

The spacing changes for the steps, defined in increments. See Configure personal preferences for increments and Configure global increments for step-by-step formatting adjustments.

Important

The paragraph spacing changes are subject to the lock to the baseline grid. See Paragraph leading and lock to the baseline grid.

Note

The difference between space above and space between in the step-by-step changes, is that the space above moves also the first paragraph.

Unlike these, the Space before in the Paragraph palette will never move the first paragraph (in the column) down.
