The Tracking main tab preferences are applined on the tracking layouts (paper production) in Fred4.

There are four kinds of preferences: Global options, that apply on all tracking layouts, either current or new; Default layout options that apply on all tracking layouts you will create after you've made changes; Default audit filter that apply on all tracking layouts; Edit layout options, that apply only on the current tracking layout.
