Multi-element headline consists of two or more elements: kicker (strap), headline, subhead. Such headline elements can flow each in own frame or all in one frame.

You have two choices when deciding about how to format such a headline:

Put all headline elements in separate frames: in that case, they become single-element simple headlines or single-element multiformatted headlines and get formatted as explained in the mentioned links.

Put all headline elements in one frame: in that case,  formatting of such a headline requires one or more styles, and therefore, cannot be achieved by using format defaults only. This complicates also the creation of the library objects. You can create the styles as chained, so they can be applied in a single step.
