How the audit works?

On each change of any object for which you turned on the audit or for which the audit is turned on by default, a new row is added to the gn_audittable with the object id, date, time, the user id, and the code of operation.

This action is automatic.

The audit rows remain in the database as long the related objects are in the 'live' or in the 'spiked' status. Once the objects gets purged, all the related audit rows are purged too.

The audit related to the objects that are never purged, e.g. publication destinations and similar may grow very big.
