To unpublish content, check-out the destination, select one or more items and then remove content. Publish again.

Publishing is not additive. If you have 10 articles in the staging list, and then you publish them on a Web page, the published count on that pubdest is 10, and the Web page has 10 articles.

Now, if you remove those 10 articles from staging, and put another 12 articles and publish, the published count is 12 (and not 22), and the Web page contains those 12 articles. The previous 10 articles are not deleted from CMS, but they're not published anymore on the Web page.
