In order to run GN4, the following components must be installed on a GN4 server. Each component has a brief description of the minimum servers hardware requirements. All the components can run in a virtual environment.

Web Service IIS servers with a load balancer

2 or more servers

Operating system: Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 server or Windows 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit

Single quadcore high clock speed CPU (upgradable to two)

At least 8GB RAM

A Gigabit network card

Note: The requirements for IIS are very dependent from the number of users. Every user consumes memory (from few KB to some MB)depending on how it uses the application.

SQL SERVER

2 servers

Operating system: Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 server or Windows 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or 2008 Standard 64bit or Oracle 10 and newer, or MySQL 5.6.4 or newer (since the version 2.1)

Double quadcore high clock speed CPU

At least 24GB RAM

A Gigabit network card

A disk array for the database (RAID5 or RAID1-0) or a SAN

A disk array for storage (data) (RAID5 or RAID1-0) or a SAN

Exalead: the Full-text index service

2 Servers OS 64bit, first server Index builder/searcher, second server searcher

Operating system: Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 server or Windows 2008R2 Standard 64-bit

Single quadcore high clock speed CPU (upgradable to two)

At least 8GB RAM

A Gigabit network card

Fast disks array

Storage of about 30% of the data in the Database

NOTE: for test purposes, you can install Exalead on a 32-bit OS but it cannot index more than a million records

Back4: multipurpose background workflow service.

Used for all in/out operations. Normally it must be installed on its own server. There can be more back4 servers in a configuration

2 Servers, first server for content ingestion, second server for production tasks

Single quadcore high clock speed CPU (upgradable to two) - 1 CPU core for each Back4 thread

Minimum 8 GB RAM. Increase the RAM in case of heavy audio/video conversion

A Gigabit network card

Storage should not be relevant but it may vary depending from what the back4 is used for

Note

Supported Internet Information Services (IIS):

IIS 7.x, IIS 6.x (IIS 5 - WinXP (SP2) are supported by versions 1.6 or earlier)-

About SAN devices

The read/write speed of the SAN is extremely important. Aim to install SANs with high throughput. See also SAN storage.
