Build 1501 on 14/Nov/2017  This topic last edited on: 21/Mar/2016, at 18:32

Notes

This configuration does not includes GNWeb.

Exalead is not available/required for GNPortal only installations.

gn4_conf_4 servers cluster

Server configuration

Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 server or 2008R2 Enterprise 64-bit

SQL 2012 or 2008 Enterprise 64bit

Double QuadCore CPU

24GB RAM

2 Gigabit net card

1 local disc for System

1 SAN with fiber connection for database and file system storage (cluster). See also Storage.

1 local disc (RAID5 or RAID1-0) for indexes in the Index servers

Variation: use the SAN also for indexes

Description

SQL server is running in cluster and it doesn’t need replication.

The storage is on the SAN.

For a true fault tolerant system an SQL Backup and a copy of the storage is suggested.

The Main index server is running the full-text Index service. The indexes are replicated on the Backup index server using the Exalead functionality.

IIS is running in load balancing on the index servers.

The number of index servers as well as IIS servers can be expanded.

All the traffic between the server is done on the Ethernet backbone.

Audio/Video processing can run on the Backup index server. It may impact the performance of IIS.

NOTE: In case of heavy Audio/Video processing a dedicated Back4 server must be added.

Pros:

Easy failover

Better spread of the load

Good performance

IIS and indexes are scalable

Cons:

More servers to maintain

Not truly fault tolerant unless an SQL backup and a storage copy is added

Apply to all scenarios.
