How licenses work?

On a customer GN4 server there's a process that in regular intervals queries over Internet the GN4 license's server (hosted in a safe fault-tolerant environment).  The default URL of the GN4 license server is http://licenses.teradp.com/lisa4Srv.asmx and it is defined in the GlobalConfig object as ServerUrl="http://licenses.teradp.com/lisa4Srv.asmx".

By default, the license is renewed for 30 days as soon as you connect a GN4 with a browser or a GN4 application.

During the short connection with the license server, GN4 server compares the number and type of options in a license stored in the GN4 local database with the options in the license, stored for the given customer on the GN4 license server.

The application is then checking in the database if the requested action is allowed or not.

Note

A license is counted only if you are actually working on something, therefore, if you launch Fred4, a license is counted only when you open a page; if you launch Ted4, a license is counted only when you open an article.
