This procedure is to be carried out on the Editions tab in Fred4.

By copy and paste

1.Open the source edition, and then open the target edition. Both editions must belong to the same title. Tile the edition windows.
2.In the list of Pages of the source edition, select a layer you want to share (source layer), right-click it, and then select Copy (or press CTRL+C).
Note: to display the layers of the selected page, click the _plus sign on the page.
3.In the list of Pages of the target edition, right-click the target page and then select Check-out selected.

4. Right-click the page again and then select Paste Sharing, or press SHIFT+CTRL+V.

5.When prompted to replace the existing layer with the pasted one, select what you want. For details see Selecting behavior when sharing layer.

By drag and drop

1.On the Edit > Preferences, ensure that Move the layer shared with d&d from other edition (instead of copy) is unticked.

2.Open the source edition, and then open the target edition. Both editions must belong to the same title. Tile edition windows.

3.In the list of Pages of the target edition, select and then right-click it and select Check-out selected.

4.In the list of Pages of the source edition, drag a layer you want to share (source layer), over the page icon in the target edition.

5.When prompted to replace the existing layer with the dragged  one, select what you want. For details see Selecting behavior when sharing layer.

_noteNote

This procedure shares an entire layer between two pages belonging to two different editions of the same title. You can share the same layer with more pages than just two, practically as many as you want. If you do any change of the content of that layer on any page that shares it, it will affect all the pages that share that layer.
