You can apply transparency to selected objects (including graphics and text frames), but not to individual text characters (except if converted to outlines).

However, imported graphics with transparency effects will display and print correctly.

Note: under specific conditions, transparency may not work. See Transparency limitations for details.

To apply transparency on objects and groups

1.Select one or more objects or groups.

2.On the Opacity palette, select Opacity enabled.

3.In the Blend mode, select Opacity.

4.In %, select the percentage: 100% is solid, 0% is totally transparent.

5.In Apply to select Area and Rule.

If the transparency palette is not displayed, choose Window > Palettes > Palettes Sidebar > Opacity.

About groups

There is no difference in applying transparency to single objects, multiple selection, or groups. Transparency is always applied to the single object.

If you ungroup a group of transparent objects, cut or copy an object, and then paste the object somewhere else, the pasted object remains transparent.

About fill and stroke

You cannot apply different transparency values to the fill and stroke (rule) of an object.

About feathering

The feathered objects cannot become transparent.
