Built-in GNML tags

Use the built-in GNML tags for direct text formatting, or to construct GNML styles. Type them into the text, or apply by hot-keys, or apply by dialog boxes for character and paragraph formatting in Ted4, Fred4, or EdAdmin4.

A built-in GNML tag usually sets only one typographical characteristics of the text, e.g.; either font or type size, type base, leading or other.

For example, a built-in tag f with the parameter 9001, sets the font to Times-Roman: >f 9001<.

However, a GNML tag can set more typographical characteristics at once. For example, a built-in tag h with parameter 12pt sets the type size and character width to 12pt: >h 12pt<. The GNML language contains 72 built-in tags.

See Built-in GNML Tags (by name) for the list.

The built-in GNML tags are hard-coded in the GN4 applications. Thus, you cannot modify them or remove them. The names of built-in GNML tags are reserved and cannot be used for the names of GNML user-defined styles.

All the built-in GNML tags are always available in text, independently of assigned formats.
