The GNML typographical language is the TERA's proprietary text formatting language. In certain aspects, it is similar to XML, especially because both are extensible. It also has some common points with traditional typographical markup languages such as Linotype's CORA.
GNML consists in:
•Built-in tags and variables: provide all the basic text formatting effect and also some specific graphical effects as color, borders, tint, underlines and in-line images, and the tabulation. Typographical variables allow to get typographical information and use them in expressions.
•Custom tags (styles): extend the GN4 formatting features to custom solutions, including new tags, conditional formatting, and XML tags in the Web publishing and the text archiving.
Custom tags get organized in style libraries and formats. Formats contain links to style libraries and default attributes for unformatted text. Formats get linked to text, and so provide a centralized text formatting model.
