In a workflow between Ted4 and Fred4, writers and editors compose and rewrite content while layout designers are preparing the page layout. A typical workflow consists of the following steps:
LAYOUT DRIVEN COPY FLOW
In Fred4, create page frames, and then create articles. You can use object libraries or page books for quick creating of page layouts. Articles may contain links to dummy images. As soon as you save a page with such article, they become available to Ted4 users for writing and editing. You can also send the articles to specified folders, e.g. user private folder.
In Ted4, open the article.
All the article elements appear in the articles tree pane. When you view the article in WYSIWYG view, you see the geometry assigned to that article.
In Ted4, open element(s) and edit text or write the image caption. Note: to edit the graphic itself, open it in a suitable application, such as Photoshop or similar. You cannot change the article layout.
Whenever you save the article or the element you are working on, the changes are saved in the database and anyone working on that article (the Fred4 layout or another Ted4, that opened element as read-only) can see the changes. Note: this depends on the Alert mechanism that distributes the changes. Under some conditions, you will need to refresh manually the data. The content however remains in use by you until you finish the editing.
In Fred4, work on the layout.
Regardless of whether the articles are being edited in Ted4, Fred4 users can work on the page layout. Moreover, they can edit content in the article elements that are not in use by other users. Whenever the Ted4 user saves the element in editing, the Fred4 user can update that content within the layout to see the latest revisions.
In Ted4, continue working.
When finished with your edits, save and then close the element. Other users are able to open the element for editing work on it.
If a user is modifying the layout in Fred4 simultaneously, your Ted4 is updated automatically (or you can update it manually) and review the layout geometry as you work.
Multiple users can edit different articles linked to the same Fred4 page simultaneously, or a single user can edit multiple articles.
In Fred4, ensure that nobody is editing articles. This can be achieved by running a page test for "in use" articles.
The workflow makes it possible to know who has an element in use. Once all articles are complete, they're typically sent in a folder where Ted4 users have no write access, so Fred4 users can edit articles to finalize the layout as necessary.
COPY DRIVEN COPY FLOW
In Ted4, create an article and work on it. Eventually, assign it to a page.
In Fred4, find all articles assigned to the specific page, and link them to a page - one by one. Save the page. The assigned layout becomes visible in Ted4. The users now can edit copy to fit.
