When you work with character styles in WYSYWIG pane or on page, you may encounter some peculiarities. This topic helps you to resolve typical problems.
EXITING FROM A CHARACTER STYLE THAT IS LAST IN THE LINE
If the text formatted with a character style is the last in the line, and you edit in the WYSIWYG palette or on page, it seems impossible to exit the character style, ie. to write text not formatted by it. In the example below, if you try to add a letter after 2 in word2 (left), it will be highlighted in yellow color (right) even if you don't want it.
The reason of such behaviour it that since there's no any character after the ending tag >res 1< of the character style (invisible on the figure) , the cursor is not able to move after it.
The solution is following:
1. | Select the letter(s) you added and you don't want them to be formatted by character style |
2. | Click the Character Style box in the toolbar (see the toolbar in the Apply character style on selected text), delete the character style in the box, and then press 8. The selection will revert to unformatted text. |
ADDING A CHARACTER ON THE BEGINNING OF TEXT FORMATTED BY A CHARACTER STYLE
When you click in text, before the first character formatted by a character style, the cursor is placed "before" style, so when you start to type, it won't be formatted as style, but as default text. The Character Style box in the toolbar is empty. In the example below, we added an "x" before word2, and x is formatted as default.
Use the right arrow key to move the cursor one position to the right, after you clicked before the first character. Note: the cursor apparently does not move, but you may see the difference in the Character Style box in the toolbar. While it was empty before you pressed the right arrow key, you see the name of the character style after you pressed the right arrow key.
