You need to set paragraph defaults of a format during creation of a format (recommended) or any time later.

The reasons of setting character defaults of formats formats are explained in Formats and the range of frame heights.

Note: if you are already editing a format, then start with the step #3.

To set paragraph defaults of a format

1.Edit a format as explained in Edit formats in EdAdmin4.

1.Click Paragraph.

2.On the Gen tab, under Leadings, enter the appropriate value for leading in Leading, using a suitable measurement unit, e.g. 10pt.

3.Under Indent, enter a suitable value in Starting, for the 1st line indent. Only absolute values are allowed, you can't enter EMW, or percentage.

4.In Paragraph alignment, select the paragraph alignment (except the last line). The available are: justified, left, centred, right.

5.Select or clear Hyphenation, to specify the default status of paragraph hyphenation.

6.In Last line alignment, select the last line alignment. The available are: justified, left, centred, right.

7.Select Use with end line. In that case, the lines where you insert soft-return will be aligned as last lines of paragraph.

8.In Measure, enter the value for default column measure in pt's.

9.On the V.just tab, skip all, except in cases explained under Exceptions for vertical justification.

10.On the Spc tab, under Word spacing, enter appropriate values in three boxes. If your default text needs to be controlled on orphans and widows, under Unbreakable lines enter appropriate values in boxes.

Exceptions for vertical justification

2.Your default leading is 10pt, and you want to allow it to be reduced for 0.5pt if needed, but increased only for 0.2pt, e.g. 9.5 through 10.2pt. Enter 0.2pt in Stretching and 0.5 in Shrinking.
3.Your default leading is 10pt, and you want to allow it to be increases to 11pt if needed. Enter 1pt in Stretching and 0 in Shrinking.
