You need to set character defaults of a format during creation of a format (recommended) or any time later.

The reasons of setting character defaults of formats are explained in Formats and the range of frame heights.

Note: if you are already editing a format, then start with the step #3.

To set character defaults of a format

1.Edit a format as explained in Edit formats in EdAdmin4.

2.Click Character.

3.On the Font tab, in Font, select a default font for text from the list or type its identification number, e.g. 9001.

4.In Size, enter the default type size, using any available typographical measure,e.g. 9pt

5.Skip Base, Track., and V.disp., unless you need to set default for those properties.

6.Skip the C&E tab, unless you need to set default for those properties.

7.On the H&M tab, skip Mode, Notes mode code, and Region.

8.In Hyp. rules, select the language code for the default text.

9.Skip the Und tab, unless you need to set default for those properties.

Notes about skipped settings

It does not make much sense to shift the baseline of the default text, or to make it hidden, or underlined. Keep in mind that you can easily change the settings during text editing, either manually, or by applying styles.
