Since build 2.1, On the Shell main tab, display the article preview, and then click the edit icon next to the element name. This opens a small pop-up where you can edit content. Click Update to save, click OK to save and close. Click Cancel to abort changes if you didn't click Update before.

This functionality is available also on the preview of the Publishing main tab (right-click over an article in the preview).
