Permissions on formats and styles (and also on style libraries, hyphenations, fonts and font layouts) are inherited from the parent typography.
Anyhow, you need the permission to access EdAdmin4 (as described in Applications/Designers permissions).
View You can only apply formats to article elements, and nothing else. Actually, to be able to apply formats it is enough also RefRead Normal (to be able to get the list of formats), and RefRead Protected (to be able to access to the scopeRef attribute): It is not possible to set permissions to avoid that the users can change the format. In order to achieve this, set the permissions on the SelectTextFormat script, typically attached to the F2 key). Edit In You can apply formats to article elements, you can edit format defaults, you can assign and remove existing style libraries to/from a format. You cannot create new formats, cannot create new style libraries, you cannot change styles. You cannot change anything in the typography, i.e. you cannot edit colors, copyfits, word estimate, nor start/end shapes. You cannot delete the typography. You cannot change the typography access permissions. If you want just to edit existing styles and formats (no deleting, no creating of new ones): If you want to be able to create new styles, you need to add the Place In permission (as you are placing a new item within a typography): If you want to be able to delete a format, you need to add Ref Delete permission (to delete a format) and Send From (to remove it from the typography): If you remove RefRead permissions on the typography... ...when that user attempts to run Ted4 that defaults to that typography, a misleading message will be displayed. It is not true that there's no default font, but the current user doesn't have permissions to read it, and therefore the message: You can ignore such message and proceed, but when you attempt to open an article with a format in the given typography, another error is displayed: At this point, the opening of the article will fail. If you grant the Ref Read Normal permission only, it will resolve the previous errors, but another one will appear: At this point, the opening of the article will fail. |
